Language and Methodology (Secondary/Adult)

Who is this course for?

Practising teachers of English who are working at secondary level or higher.

Course aims

  • To “brush up” and improve your confidence and competence in English
  • To update your methodology, management and practical teaching techniques and skills
  • To examine and reflect on the content of the course and your approaches and attitudes to teaching and learning
  • To deepen your understanding of what you and others do in the classroom
  • To discuss and share problems, ideas, language, and techniques with others like you from all around the world!

Method

There will be a focus on language improvement and practical methodology through a variety of workshops, seminars, lectures, demonstrations and practice. You will be expected to discuss, experience, practise, observe, reflect, evaluate, feedback, listen, read….and develop and enjoy yourself!

Course programme

Language Improvement
There will be an implicit and explicit focus on language according to the needs of individuals and the group. There will be an implicit skills development agenda through the delivery of the course, especially in speaking and listening. There will also be sessions devoted to vocabulary development, common errors and remedial pronunciation improvement as required.
Teaching Techniques
Participants will be able to experience a variety of teaching techniques, materials, devices and procedures designed to help students acquire language and evaluate them for their effectiveness and discuss ways of adapting them to fit in with different teaching contexts. Participants may also be invited to micro-teach in order to experiment with new ways of working and to give and receive feedback. There may also be the opportunity to observe working teachers within the school.

EU funding

EU funding to the value of 2000 euros or more is available for teachers from the European Union and Associated Countries.

Bell Teacher Campus, Cambridge

This course will take place at the brand new Bell Teacher Campus, Cambridge on the site of Homerton College which is part of the University of Cambridge. Homerton is an outstandingly beautiful college in secluded wooded grounds with easy access to Cambridge town centre. It has first-class learning and social facilities.

Half-board accommodation is available in single en-suite rooms on site. The training staff are all highly qualified trainers, many of whom are materials writers and conference speakers. New this year is an exciting conference-style approach for two afternoons each week, with a wide range of inspiring topics to choose from and a special lecture every Wednesday.
